Game Day Tips
Arrival: Have a parent go to the Blue Tent by the concession stand and pick up newsletters to be passed out to your teams parents. Field: Arrive early, check the field for anything dangerous (chopped up cans, broken glass, etc). Check to make sure the goals are secured with stakes. Tighten up the nets if they need some adjustments. Fans: Please have your parents sit on the opposite side of the field from the player’s side of the field. If you are without an assistant coach, you might want to recruit a bench coach to help you on the sidelines. Warm up: Get your kids out running around with the ball…this usually is not a problem. Check Equipment: Make sure every player has shin guards covered by socks, no jewelry and no casts (not even padded casts). Be sure they are drinking plenty of water. Start the game on-time: U6 coaches will have to keep an eye on the clock and start their games on time. The Game: Plan your lineups for the game. Have this ready for the referee. AYSO Principles require you to play the kids at least half of the game. Rotate positions throughout the games this season. Consider overall player development. Let the kids play, minimize the coaching during the game and instruct at halftime and in practices. Have Fun. Encourage the kids to master skills, make mistakes and give maximum effort. The Referee: U8 and above: The referee is in charge of the game. Decisions made by the ref are final. If you think it is a bad decision, keep quiet and let the kids play. The referees know when they make good calls and they know when they make bad calls but the game continues in soccer. Please provide feedback to the referee administrator if you have positive comments about the refs. If you have negative comments, we will make you a referee next yearJ. The End of the Game: Please keep the area clean around the fields. Be sure no trash, water bottles and soccer balls are left behind. Be absolutely certain all of your players have been picked up by a parent before you leave the field. A reminder to the Head Coach of AYSO Soccer Teams: You are responsible for the behavior of your players and your player’s parents. Referees should not be harassed in any way by parents on the sidelines. If you see or hear inappropriate behavior, please put an immediate stop to it. Each year we have an issue(s) with parents not acting appropriately on the sidelines. Have a parent meeting before the game if you feel your sidelines are getting out of control. Please immediately contact any board member to report any inappropriate behavior. Game Day is “For the Kids”. Enjoy the games.
